An Interview with Todd Francis, Skateboard Artist & Visual Instigator

ToddFrancis_Apr2017-700551

“only a handful of artists have stuck around skateboarding long enough to not only tell its story, but have any type of arc or evolution. Still pissed, still “shitty,” and still a part of skateboarding, Francis is absolutely at his best when he’s at his worst.”

I had the amazing pleasure of meeting and photographing Todd Francis for THE HUNDREDS, on the night of his exhibition “Worst of the Worst” at House of Vans, which chronicled two decades of graphics with Anti-Hero skateboards. Head over to their site to read the full interview by Anthony Pappalardo.

Vans x Our Legacy

Growing up, skating and punk were synonymous. Last weekend in London, Vans debuted a new capsule collection with Swedish brand OUR LEGACY, inspired by 90s hardcore. Celebrating the release, Youth Of Today performed an intimate show at an art gallery in London’s Soho. To work with icons from both of those worlds simultaneously was awesome. More photos and the full story are up now at Paper Magazine.

Check out all of my favorites here: colegiordano.com/vans-x-our-legacy

Thank you Vans and Jockum of Our Legacy for inviting me to be a part of it.

It was a great day remembering a real new york skateboarding icon and I was psyched to take some photos of other skate legends, such as Tony Alva and Steve Olson, who were there as well. Please head over to their site as well and check out all of the photos and the video recap as well.

“Go Skateboarding Day!”: NYC, 2011

Last Tuesday was international “Go Skateboarding Day!” – a day where all skateboarders are called to the streets to show their commitment to, and the unbelievable popularity of skateboarding. Events took place all over the country and all over the world. Here in New York City, the day started at the new Maloof Money Cup skatepark in Queens, went through Manhattan, and ended just down the street from my apartment at McCarren Park in Brooklyn. There were contests, obstacles, dj’s, girls giving out Red Bull, giveaways, and literally hundreds of skateboarders. I went hoping to both skate and photograph, but the crowd was so huge that I decided to stay off the board and behind the camera. Here are some shots from the finale of the day at McCarren Park.
